Dr. Gail Weingast’s career in medicine

July 18, 2019

It was in 1976 that Dr. Gail Weingast earned her degree in medicine from Boston University’s School of Medicine -- a year that began her four decade career in the field. She entered the School of Medicine rather unconventionally, after having received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1969. However, a medical career was what she desired and studied toward following undergrad.

After attaining her degree in medicine, Dr. Gail Weingast completed various internships and residencies. These provided additional education toward the career as well as helped her hone her specific field of study within medicine. Following an internship in pediatrics for one year, she focused during his residency at the same hospital, Colorado General in Denver, and from 1980 to 1983, she further examined radiology. Through these years, Dr. Gail Weingast learned a considerable amount about this facet of medicine and truly enjoyed radiology. In 1983, she completed a fellowship in ultrasound before moving on to post-graduate studies for the next year at Denver’s St. Anthony’s Hospital.

As Dr. Gail Weingast began her career, standing on her own as a doctor, she returned to radiology -- a field for which she discovered a passion during her four-year residency. For the decades that followed, Dr. Gail Weingast served as a radiologist for William W. Backus Hospital before becoming Chief of Ultrasound then Chief of Breast Imaging.
